Citizen tip leads to car prowler arrest

A citizen tip lead to the arrest of a car prowler early Wednesday morning. After fleeing from police, the suspect was caught with a credit card and ID that had been reported stolen from a vehicle on Monday night.

Around 2 am on Tuesday morning, Spokane Police responded to a report of a suspicious person near 24th and Howard on the South Hill. The caller said they saw a man walking into driveways and checking car doors to see if they were unlocked. After providing a description, the caller stayed on the line until police arrived in the area.

David Pederson, 35, ran from police, but was located a block away. He had an ID and credit card that had been reported stolen on Monday night. Pederson also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest for Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence Order Protection Violation and a DUI. He was booked into jail on six new charges including two counts of Vehicle Prowling and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Police would like to remind citizens of the following:

  • Lock vehicles
  • Don’t leave you car running when it is unattended
  • Remove valuables from plain sight
  • Keep garage doors closed and locked
