From Meals on Wheels Spokane:

Meals on Wheels Spokane is proud to announce it has received a $35,000 grant from the Meals On Wheels Association of America on behalf of Subaru of America, Inc. for its participation in the company’s sixth annual “Share the Love” event.

For every vehicle sold or leased between November 21, 2013 and January 2, 2014, Subaru donated $250 to the customer's choice of charity. Among the five national choices, the Meals On Wheels Association of America was included for the sixth straight year.

“Since the beginning of 2014 we have gone from delivering 183 meals per day to over 250. This grant makes it possible for us to avoid having to place at risk seniors on a wait list”, announced Mollie Dalpae, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Spokane.

During this year’s event, Meals on Wheels Spokane partnered with Subaru of Spokane Downtown during the 2013 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior hunger in Spokane. A ‘Stuff the Trunk’ campaign was held at their dealership and businesses and people came down and dropped off blankets, soups or socks to "warm" a senior's soul and body for the holidays. A Santa (one of our seniors) was out front of the Subaru of Spokane Downtown waving at cars and teenagers from Lewis and Clark High School held signs encouraging people to participate. A photographer was present when the Washington State Patrol organization contributed $500 to the campaign.

“We are overwhelmed by the support of Subaru customers who generously selected Meals On Wheels as their beneficiary,” said Ellie Hollander, Meals On Wheels Association of America President and CEO. As a result, our hardworking programs all around the country can deliver more nutritious meals, safety checks and smiles that serve as a lifeline to America’s homebound seniors.”

“Congratulations to Meals on Wheels Spokane from the entire team at Subaru of Spokane Downtown. We could not be more proud of you all and the amazing work you do in our community. We appreciate every day being a small part of your wonderful organization and look forward to our partnership for many years to come! Congratulations!!!” Exposed John Lefreic, General Manager of Subaru of Spokane Downtown.

Meals on Wheels Spokane has partnered with Subaru of Spokane Downtown during the “Share the Love” event for the first time. This year’s funding will be used to provide hot meals to very low-income, fragile seniors.
